Embraer Showcases the KC-390 Millennium at DSEI Japan as a Key Component of Its Defense Portfolio

Embraer, the Brazilian aerospace manufacturer and global leader in aerospace solutions, will participate in the DSEI Japan exhibition, taking place from May 21 to 23 in Chiba. The company will present its KC-390 Millennium aircraft, highlighting it as a cornerstone of its defense and security portfolio (Stand H8-480).

Designed to meet the operational challenges of the 21st century, the KC-390 Millennium has established itself as a versatile, robust, and highly interoperable platform—qualities increasingly valued by air forces of allied countries and NATO members.

“The KC-390 has proven to be a reliable and highly capable platform, which is why it has attracted operators in multiple regions around the world. It is an honor for Embraer to showcase its capabilities at DSEI Japan,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.

The KC-390 is a tactical transport and aerial refueling aircraft, capable of carrying up to 26 tons of cargo. Its cruise speed of 470 knots, extended range, and ability to operate from short, unpaved, or damaged runways make it an ideal solution for austere environments and expeditionary operations.

Currently in operation with Brazil, Portugal, and Hungary, the KC-390 has also been acquired by the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, and South Korea, while Sweden and Slovakia have recently announced their selection of the aircraft for their air mobility needs. This steady growth in users strengthens interoperability among allies and enhances multinational logistical and operational support.

Integrated Tactical and Strategic Capabilities

The KC-390 is capable of performing a wide variety of missions, including:

  • Air transport and airdrop of troops and cargo
  • Aeromedical evacuation
  • Search and Rescue (SAR)
  • Humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR)
  • Firefighting
  • Maritime surveillance and long-range patrol
  • Air-to-air refueling (AAR)

Thanks to its modular design and open architecture, the aircraft can be quickly reconfigured and adapted to different mission profiles. Its air-to-air refueling system further turns it into a force multiplier, extending the range and endurance of other aerial platforms.

With a 99% operational availability rate and competitive operating costs, the KC-390 stands out not only for its performance but also for its lifecycle efficiency

Commitment to Asia-Pacific

Embraer already has a strong presence in the Asia-Pacific region, with aircraft in operation in India, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia, and soon in South Korea. Its participation in DSEI Japan underscores the company’s strategic interest in the Japanese market, where its E-Jet commercial jet line has gained traction over the past 15 years.

With over two decades of experience in the design, certification, and production of air platforms, Embraer has developed 21 different aircraft currently in active service around the world, positioning itself as a key player in the global aerospace ecosystem.

The presentation of the KC-390 at DSEI Japan aims not only to showcase its technical capabilities but also to offer Japan a comprehensive solution for its current and future needs in tactical air mobility, interoperability, and response to complex scenarios.
